MimiMimi Papp - Violin

Mimi Papp began her violin studies at the age of 7 with Curtis graduate Ruth Helmer. As a teenager she continued her training at the New School of Music in Philadelphia, where her principal teachers were Yumi Ninomiya-Scott (Philadelphia Orchestra) and Jascha Brodsky (Curtis String Quartet). She is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music (B.A., Music Performance, 1988) with Burton Kaplan as her primary teacher. After graduating, Mimi trained and was certified in the Suzuki teaching method under Louise Behrend at the School For Strings in New York City.  Throughout this period, Mimi continued her violin studies with the late Richard Simon, formerly of the New York Philharmonic.

Prior to relocating to the Southwest, Mimi held positions with the New Orleans and Florida Symphonies and was an active freelance violinist in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC. From 1992 until 2000, Mimi was based in the Lehigh Valley area of Pennsylvania where she was a faculty member of the Moravian College Music Department. In 1996 Mimi co-founded SATORI a conductor-less chamber ensemble. Throughout these years, she also performed, taught and coached as a member of the violin faculty at Kinhaven School of Music (a summer program for gifted young musicians), in Weston, Vermont.

In the Fall of 2003 Mimi relocated to Tucson, Arizona with her spouse, musician Tom Ginsberg, where she continues as a freelance performer with the Arizona Opera, the Tucson Symphony, the Tucson Pops Orchestra and as a member of The Camus Quartet. Mimi’s other interests include; yoga, and horseback riding.
